I’ve already explained my reasons for being so keen on Rickie Fowler for the Open this year, and he has to be backed to be top American at 11/1 even with much of the field having teed off. His warmup in Scotland should have helped his chances for this week and the early potential that he showed in this event two years running has been fulfilled in other majors as well – a sign that he’s ready to strike even at his young age.
Brendon Todd appeals as a flyer for the same reason, at 33’s.
Graeme McDowell’s French Open win showed his class when dealing with tough courses and hard conditions to land his second French Open title and if taking high rank in the overall, can go well in the race for top European at 11/1. Danny Wilett is also worth chancing as if he was to make the top 20 then he could be competitive and that does not look beyond him.
