The battle to be top tryscorer in the Pro 14 Championship is always a fierce one and with a whole new set of fixtures and two new teams, punters have an incredibly compelling puzzle to try and solve ahead of the season.
Expectations for the two South African franchises are reasonably low ahead of their first seasons in the competition but that didn’t stop Makazole Mapimpi from scoring 11 tries in Super Rugby last season and he is worth taking a flyer on for honours again. He is at an considerable advantage from the start given that none of the Northern Hemisphere contenders are in the thoughts of Springbok selectors and home games against against Zebre, Cardiff, Connacht, Edinburgh and the Kings also help to make his case.
The domestic finish who makes most appeal is Adam Byrne, who scored 10 tries for Leinster in a superb breakout season and can kick on once again during this coming campaign. The men in blue have a tough campaign but that did not prevent them from being one of the most enterprising sides in the entire division last season and he makes a lot of appeal at 16’s to have a big season.
